Department of Mining Engineering

The Department was started in 1983 and since has emerged at the forefront of the institutions offering undergraduate degree course in Mining Engineering. Its alumni have been serving the wide range of public and private sector of industry, R&D institutions, academia, and even civil services with distinction in India as well as abroad, with those of the first batches having already made it to the level of Dy. General Manager/Sub Area Manager; some of them have also proven their mettle as entrepreneurs.

The Department has firmly held its own amidst all the vicissitudes and lean patches the Department of Mining Engineering largely had to pass through and has stuck to its reputation of one teaching hard core mining syllabi. The Department boosts of an experienced faculty supporting technical staff and all the laboratories needed for a UG and PG level institution. It maintains a cordial rapport with the neighboring industry to keep abreast of the latest in field. The seminars on “Mining Industry: Problem & Prospects” (MINPROPS98) the Department organized in February 1998 in association with CMRI (now CIMFR), Nagpur and on “Environmental Hazards Arising Out of Mining Activities” organized in 1987 were roaring successes inviting wide-spectrum participation from all the quarters including the academia, the industry, and Research Organizations. Its faculty has been associated in organizing many seminars and workshops in tandem with Chandrapur Area, WCL. The Department has kept consistently in touch with its alumni and has been instrument at in starting Alumni Annual Meet, eleven of which have been organized till date; the alumni have also responded with great enthusiasm, contributingRs.50,000/- to enrich and update the Departmental Library. Since past five years, the students of the Department have been bagging most lucrative placements through Campus Interviews held by leading companies like LAFARGE Cement, Heidelberg Cement, Vedanta Group of Industries, Lafarge RMC, Gujrat Ambuja Cements, Adani Group, Aryan Coal Beneficiation Pvt Ltd., S. Bagdoria &Company, Kolkata, Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd, Shree Cements, DalmiaCements, etc.

In the field of testing & consultancy and research &development, till date the department has done remarkably. It is engaged in regular testing and consultancy activities with national level industries and private sector companies as client base. Since 2009 to till date, the department has bagged contract from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Govt. of Maharashtra on Ambient Air Quality Monitoring of the region amounting to over Rs 42.0Lacs. The department has completed two research projects belonging to M/s Gopani Sponge Iron Pvt Ltd and M/s Grace Industries Pvt Ltd, distt. Chandrapur. In addition Department of Mining Engineering carried consultancy projects on Design of Blast & Blast Vibration Monitoring for mines

The faculties of the department have excelled on the forefront of their academics. Prof S N Bisen has completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D) from Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur(CG) in Jan’2004. As a part of doctoral research study, Prof M D Uttarwar has presented his 2nd International Research Paper at the35th ISEE International Conference on Explosives and Blasting Techniques, 8-11 Feb’2009, Denver, Colorado, USA. Prof M D Uttarwar has been awarded his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Mining Engineering) by V N I T, Nagpur in Oct’2011. 

     Faculty now has new additions namely: 

      Prof. Priyesh Kumar, M. Tech & B Tech from IIT (B.H.U) Varanasi.

      Prof. Wazul Khan, M Sc Geology RTMNU Nagpur M.S.

Over the years, since inception of the department and by now our alumni have elevated and working in various capacities in the industries like to the post of CMD, Vice-President, General Manager, Dy. General Manager, Sub-Area Manager and Mine Managers. Apart from this they have exhibited their skills in specializations and interdisciplinary areas by qualifying written / entrance tests leading to admission to PG courses like M.E./ M-Tech, MBA, Safety Management, Computer Science, etc. 

Several of our students are being placed in companies like CIL, Hindustan Copper, SAIL and many more public sector undertakings. Our Alumni Mr. Gaurav Brahmankar has recently started a Start-up Droid Mining Solutions dealing in Drone Survey for big mining companies like CIL, ACC, Railways and many more.
